The Centre on African Philanthropy and Social Investment (CAPSI) at Wits Business School, in collaboration with the Open Society Foundations (OSF), Trust Africa, African Philanthropy Forum and Centre LSD, invites you to a High-Level Dialogue titled, “Have We Lost the Accountability Debate: Reflections on 30 Years of Anti-Corruption Work.
Taking place on 10-11 September 2026 in Lagos, Nigeria, this dialogue arrives at a critical moment. Three decades have passed since the establishment of many of Africa’s anti-corruption frameworks, institutions, and civil society movements. Yet corruption, impunity, and the erosion of public trust continue to challenge governance across the continent. The question is no longer simply “what is the problem?”, but rather, it has become “why has so much effort produced so little change, and what must we do differently?”
This High-Level Dialogue will bring together a diverse and distinguished group of leaders from government, civil society, the private sector, philanthropy, and youth movements to reflect honestly on what has worked, what has not, and what a new era of accountability must look like.
The conversation will explore the current state of governance and accountability in Africa, interrogate the effectiveness of existing anti-corruption approaches, amplify emerging voices reimagining transparency and public leadership, and chart pathways toward a more accountable future.
The dialogue will extend beyond the room through media platforms, widening the conversation to broader African publics.
