Sfiso is the Centre’s Administrator, with experience in strategic planning, resource management and operational oversight. His proactive approach and problem-solving abilities are instrumental in driving initiatives that streamline processes and enable the objectives of the Centre. Sfiso holds BA Honours in Applied Linguistics and Literature Theory, Postgraduate Diploma in Language Education, Higher Certificate in Law, Postgraduate Certificate in Education and is currently pursuing a MA in Applied Linguistics.
Jacob is the Deputy Director Academic Programmes at the Centre on African Philanthropy and Social Investment and an Associate Professor at the University of Witwatersrand’s Wits Business School. He is a multi-disciplinary pracademic with formal education and training in Public Administration, Politics, Economics, Development Studies, Sociology, and Tertiary Teaching. His professional experience spans over twenty years of work in academia, civil society and consulting in Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, and North America. Jacob has written and published extensively on civil society, volunteerism and philanthropy, and their intersections with development and governance, especially in Africa. Previously he has consulted at United Nations Volunteers and taught sociology at the University of the South Pacific, Fiji, and as an Associate Research Fellow at the Society, Work and Politics (SWOP) Institute. He serves on the board of Grassroots Trust in Kenya, as well as in the Editorial Boards of Voluntas: International Journal of Voluntary and Nonprofit Organizations; The Annual Review of South African Philanthropy; International Review of Philanthropy and Social investments, and the Journal of Nation-building & Policy Studies.
Roland is a development finance specialist who has worked with the Centre for Financial Regulation and Inclusion, African Centre for a Green Economy, Green Economy Coalition, Africagrowth Institute, the World Bank as well as for Business Unity South Africa. His research interests stem from Development Finance, Public Finance as well as International and Financial Economics. He holds a Bachelors in Economics from the University of Cape Town, an MSc in International Finance and Economic Development from the University of Kent, and a Ph.D. in Development Finance from the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business.
Halima is an Independent Researcher and Philanthropy Consultant with vast experience in research, advocacy, technical support, and advisory services. Her work is focused on strengthening the knowledge, practice and impact of philanthropy in Africa and advancing social justice philanthropy, as well as offering review and strategy advisory services to philanthropy institutions on various programmes. Halima is the chair for our Centre’s Adɔyɛ committee and a member of the Philanthropy for Social Justice and Peace management team, on the Alliance magazine Editorial Board, and on the International Center for Not-for-Profit Law (ICNL) Advisory Council. She holds a Master’s in Development Studies from the University of Witwatersrand.
Emmanuel is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Social Policy Studies, University of Ghana and a Visiting Research Fellow at the Centre for Development Studies, University of Bath. He is an international development specialist with over a decade’s academic and professional experience in the fields of politics of development and political economy analysis, philanthropy and volunteerism, civil society advocacy and activism and NGO politics and management. Emmanuel has extensive research and teaching experience in mixed-methods research and has undertaken a number of research projects and consultancy services for academic institutions, philanthropic foundations and NGOs in Africa, Europe and North Africa. He holds a Ph.D. in International Development from the University of Bath, an MSc in Agriculture and Development, a Master’s in Development and Rights, and a Bachelor’s in Geography and Rural Development.
Emmanuel is a lecturer at Wits Business School where he teaches marketing, research methodology and primary research quantitative methods. He has published many journal articles, and his research interests are cross-cultural consumer behaviour, emerging markets, international marketing, digital marketing and non-profit marketing. He holds a Ph.D. in Marketing from Wits Business School, an MPhil in Human Development and an MSc in Marketing and Brand Management from the Norwegian School of Economics, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Philosophy from the University of Ghana.
Arsène is the Vice President for Academic Affairs and International Relations at the Centre de Recherche et d’Action pour la Paix (CERAP) in Côte d’Ivoire. Prior to his time at CERAP, Bado was a Southern Voices Network Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, DC. He was also a visiting researcher at Yale University and was the 2017-2018 Anna and Donald Waite Endowed Chair at Creighton University. Arsène’s work is widely published, and he is an author and editor. His research interests include democracy, ethnic pluralism, conflict analysis, forced migration, electoral processes in conflict-ridden societies, and foreign aid in Africa. He holds Bachelor’s degrees in Philosophy, Socio-Anthropology, and Theology, and Master’s Degrees in Social Ethics, International Human Rights Law, and Socio-Anthropology. He obtained his Ph.D. in Political Science from Laval University in Canada.
Noxolo is the Head of Sasol Foundation Trust, and former founder and MD of Energy House ZA, a renewable energy projects development and investment company, and founder of Phakama Sizwe, running healing conversations for the nation. She has a BCom from Rhodes University, an MA in Social Development from Sussex through a Nelson Mandela scholarship, and an MBA from the Gordon Institute of Business Science. She has worked in the development sector for over fifteen years for companies like Accenture, BHP Billiton, Trialogue, British American Tobacco and Cennergi. She is a former board member at City Power in the City of Joburg and served a three-year term as Chairperson of Southern African Females in Energy Efficiency, also a former exco member at South African National Energy Association and is currently a trustee in Eastern Cape Education Development Trust.
Chengete is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Senior Lecturer at the University of Johannesburg. He is an academic, researcher, educator and consultant, with a passion for research and consultancy in the areas of transport, logistics, economic growth, infrastructure, spatial economics, international trade, volatility in stock markets, monetary policy and investments. Chengete holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of the Witwatersrand, a Master’s degree and Honours in Economics from Rhodes University, South Africa, and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Economics from the University of Fort Hare, South Africa. Chengete also holds a postgraduate certificate from Vrije University Amsterdam, focusing on two major areas: Quantitative Financial Risk Management and Real Estate Management. He has published in peer-reviewed journals, and is a Principal Consultant at AREF Consult.
Asabea Shirley is a researcher, lecturer and consultant whose research interests lie in Capital Markets, Financial Economics, Institutions, Investments as well as Entrepreneurship/Philanthropy in emerging economies, particularly Africa. She obtained a BA degree in International Relations and Industrial Psychology from the University of Witwatersrand, and a Master’s degree in Business Leadership specialising in Corporate Finance, from the Unisa School of Business Leadership. She also holds a Certificate in Risk Management, and a Master’s degree in Finance and Investment from the Wits Business School. Inspired by the enormous potential for research in the African continent, Asabea completed a Ph.D. in Financial Economics and consults widely in the broader fields of Economic and Financial Development.
Tendai is the founder and Director of the SIVIO Institute. He is a development practitioner and researcher who over the years has advocated for pro-poor development across Africa. Tendai has over fifteen years of experience working across Africa and championing many causes. He started his career as a Research Fellow at the Sam Moyo Africa Institute for Agrarian Studies. In 2009, he joined TrustAfrica as a Programme Officer and was responsible for the Pan-African Agriculture Advocacy project. Through his excellent workmanship, Tendai rose through the ranks to become Programme Director and eventually, the Executive Director of TrustAfrica. He is a published author, with many journal articles and book collaborations. He completed his BSc in Political Science and Administration at the University of Zimbabwe, a Master’s in Development Studies at Leeds University, and went on to attain a Ph.D. in Sociology from Rhodes University.
Roselyne is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, with a diverse educational background in Management, Business Ethics and Accounting. She has experience that spans over twelve years in research, academia, and management consulting. She has a passion for teaching and research and has also supervised Master’s students in Business Administration. Her research interests are in the areas of Corporate Social Responsibility, Sustainability and Ethics. Broadly, she seeks to understand the landscape for social investments in an African context.
