CAPSI concluded the first quarter of 2026 with an Adɔyɛ International Women’s Day luncheon at Wits Business School, creating a space for reflection on women’s leadership, philanthropy, and collective impact.
The gathering brought together colleagues from across the institution to engage on the importance of sustaining conversations on women’s leadership beyond a single commemorative moment. Discussions highlighted the evolving role of women in society, with participants reflecting on increased representation in leadership across professional, community, and family contexts.
At the same time, the conversation acknowledged the structural challenges that continue to shape women’s experiences. Participants noted the disproportionate burden carried by women, particularly in contexts of poverty and caregiving, reinforcing the need to recognise both the contributions and constraints that define women’s roles.
Reflections during the session emphasised the multifaceted nature of women’s identities, with participants describing women as adaptable, resilient, and capable of navigating multiple responsibilities. The importance of creating spaces for reflection and support was also highlighted, with the luncheon serving as an opportunity to reconnect and recognise shared experiences.
The event further introduced Adɔyɛ, CAPSI’s Women in African Philanthropy initiative, which focuses on documenting and amplifying the contributions of women across the continent. Meaning “love in action,” Adɔyɛ seeks to broaden understandings of philanthropy by recognising everyday acts of giving and community support that are often overlooked.
Through research, storytelling, and convening platforms such as writing retreats and dialogues, the initiative aims to make visible the diverse ways in which women contribute to social and economic development.
The luncheon concluded with a call for continued engagement, encouraging participants to contribute to Adɔyɛ’s work and to support efforts to strengthen the visibility and recognition of women’s contributions in philanthropy.
As CAPSI advances its work in African philanthropy, the event underscored the importance of sustained dialogue, institutional support, and collective action in strengthening women’s leadership and impact across the continent.
